Don’t you love holiday meals? The loud tv, the loud talking, the smells of dinner cooking. The arguments togetherness of family and friends. ( smile ).
I made potato salad (yesterday) , Cole slaw, baked beans , dinner rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, etc.
I don’t have a lot of photos because I was so busy and people were getting in the way and I loved every minute of it.
Getting the ham “dressed and ready for the oven”. These are not bugs….that is “whole cloves”.
I was taught to cook at a very young age. Granny and Mom taught me so much. Our neighbors were just like family, and we often spent days at their houses and their kids stayed at our house. While there I would learn to cook their family recipes and listen to the stories. Hmm I started to ramble again didn’t I ? Sorry, what I wanted to say was…. I have always made this ham just like Mom. BUT I also make recipes from my dad’s side of the family. Oh forget it…. I just make everyone’s recipe. Don’t panic, I mean MY family recipes LOL.
Ok, now lets add some pineapple..oops that one broke (mmmmmmm)
Lets add some cherries, the first application of the glaze, and then pop it in the oven. Please hurry and cook….. YUMMY.
My husband makes it “his mission” to buy the biggest hams and turkeys. The rules are that it has to fit in the big roaster without being smooshed against the side and burning. So far this has worked. There is always Plenty of ham for soup, sandwiches, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, scalloped potatoes etc.
A Big turkeys mean casseroles, sandwiches, turkey noodle/rice soup etc. Those are the rules…. NO COMPLAINTS. Well he know better than to complain anyway. Rambling again? Sorry , back to the Ham dinner.
The potatoes and eggs cooling down in cold water ready to make Potato Salad ( yesterday).
I just boiled them separately and then pour them together and let the cold water run on them.
. Now time to chop, where are my “helpers”? Here they come! I can’t believe that after only one onion my eyes are starting to tear up.
The veggies have been cleaned up and chopped, throw in a bowl and lets go find the eggs and potatoes. My spices are all right here waiting.
I found the eggs and chopped them, now we’re ready for the potatoes.
The taters have been peeled, boiled and they are ready to be chopped for the potato salad or mashed. Then they will be united with yummy gravy.
(And I wonder why losing weight is so hard LOL)
Baked Beans have been cooking for hours…. time to turn down the temp and keep warm in crock-pot.
This is the ham right before dressing and putting in the roaster ( left ). Look at the size of that bugger LOL.
Like I said earlier, I didn’t get to take many photos. The kitchen was a very busy place.
The potatoes have been mashed and put in one of the crock pots to stay warm. Now onto the next dish. I like to enjoy the day with everyone so I like to make things that can be kept warm in the crock-pots or on the warming tray. Self serve is my friend but I do have many sit down holidays too.
My Kitchen-Aid mixer got a work out from dough to desserts. Kitchen Aid
.
.This is a crock-pot of corn. It was fresh on the Cobb and I removed it and froze it. I think it was about 10 ears.
Gravy is ready for a crock-pot.
If you have made it this far in this boring post, have you seen my glasses?
The dinner rolls were …. mumble…cough…..PURCHASED. Hey, everyone needs to cut out the work every now and then. I’m not one of those that has an assistant in the kitchen or a cook. I do everything MYSELF and so proud of it.
Here is dessert. Big Fat Apple Pie. Yes I made this, and will share the recipe with my changes.
This is before baking and venting etc (And obviously before cleaning up LOL )
I just thought of something, where are the photos for the cole slaw and green bean casserole?
Lunch for tomorrow will be Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwiches with cole slaw. But if they have that, I won’t make left overs of ham dinner.
