Since I have so many strawberries and a ton of basil, I thought I would try this again this year. We made it last year during our big picnic. This year I am going to make a double batch because not many people were able to try it. The first group poured a glass said “yum” and that was it. I was too busy to see how many enjoyed it.
Strawberry Bourbon Lemonade
8 oz. bourbon
2 c. strawberries
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. fresh lemon juice
12 basil leaves
bitters
Directions
- Add strawberries, sugar, and 1/4 cup water in a blender. Pulse until pureed.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the puree and 1 -3/4 cup water. Heat to boiling. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Strain through a sieve.
- In a large pitcher, combine strawberry syrup, bourbon, 1 cup water, lemon juice, basil leaves, and a splash of bitters. Stir, then pour into six or eight glasses with ice.
- Garnish each with a basil sprig.
